That Christmas Tree and Me

Ridin' home from a winter run
Embraced by an icy cold
Caught a stop
By the corner lot
Where Christmas Trees are sold
T'was within that 'red light' reflection
Came a Biker epiphany
Become a tourist
In this urban forest
Find that perfect tree
A great waft of wilderness
Greeted all of my senses
Thus my search began
Through this Winter Wonderland
Encased by chain link fences
Triangular trophies adorned the grounds
Fancy Firs to plain 'Ol Pine
Never one to settle
For what anyone may peddle
I'll know which one is 'mine'
Throughout this Holly Jolly Jungle
I poked, prodded and pursued
Just when I had thought
I saw all to be sought
My Holiday spirit was renewed
Discarded behind a dumpster
With a label stating, "No Good."
Lay a disfigured little tree
Which, as strange as it may be
Was destined for Brotherhood
Gnarled, knotty, twisted and bent
Yet possessing a certain mystique
Somewhere in between
Vulgar and obscene
Which made it all the more unique
A lumberjack poser had approached me
His plaid shirted persona piped in
"Buddy, if ya ask me
That outcast ain't no tree
It's a pine needled growth of sin
Fueled by the spirit within me
I felt compelled to spread some joy
In sharing my cheer
I motioned him near
Then said, "Come over here boy"
He seemed somewhat uneasy
There was a quiver in his knees
Yet all the while
My angelic smile
Had failed to put him at ease
"About that growth of sin boy
What say we start anew?
Listen and learn
You're about to earn
A different point of view"
"I've woken by a dumpster more than once
Lost my dignity, my soul
Far as I can see
That Christmas Tree and Me
Have paid a lifetime of toll"
"I'm somewhat gnarled and naughty
Lord knows I've been twisted and bent
Quite often in between
Vulgar and obscene
At times, I'm Heaven sent"
"I grew up labeled as, 'No Good'
An outcast is who I became
Could've played nice
Should've thought twice
Never got into the game"
"Well boy, I'll be back with my truck
Just maybe, I helped ya see
If I bent your ear
It's a gift of cheer
From That Christmas Tree and Me
